What can you do to drive ecofriendly in an ordinary car?

These days you see a lot of companies that are selling ecofriendly cars. This can certainly help the environment but you have to keep in mind that the way that you drive also has an impact. Whether you are driving an ecofriendly car or not there are things that you can do that will dramatically reduce the amount of gas that you use. This will go a long way to reducing the environmental impact of your driving.

The most important thing that you can do to drive ecofriendly in an ordinary car is to slow down. The faster you drive the more fuel you burn. The fuel burn at higher speeds is much higher than it is at slower speeds since it grows at an exponential rate. Obviously you don't want to drive too slow or you are going to cause traffic problems but you do want to stick to the speed limit. Try it for a couple of weeks and you will be amazed at how much fuel you save.

The next thing that you can do to help you to be more environmentally friendly driver is to make sure that your tires are properly inflated. A tire that is under inflated will have more resistance and won't roll as smoothly as it should. That burns more fuel so make sure that you have the right time pressure. You can look up what the tire pressure should be in the owners manual, it should also be listed inside of the car door. You will need to make sure that you have a good pressure gauge so that you can get an accurate reading. One thing to keep in mind is that the tire pressure is listed as the cold tire pressure. When you drive the heat generated by the tires will increase the pressure. Make sure that you don't measure your tire pressure right after you have been driving.

Another important tip that will save you fuel is to check your air filter on a regular basis and if it needs to be changed to do so. When the air filter gets dirty it blocks the flow of air and that reduces the performance of your engine. A cars engine is designed to work with a specific mixture of fuel and air, if you are not getting enough air some of the fuel is being wasted.

You can also be more ecofriendly by driving more smoothly. You want accelerate at a nice smooth pace rather than simply gunning your engine. It is also best to try to maintain a steady speed. When you are constantly accelerating and braking it really wastes a lot of fuel. Obviously your ability to do this will depend to a large extent on traffic, but that is another useful tip, try to avoid driving when traffic is heavy.
