GREEN RIVER HEART INSTITUTE, we want your heart-healthy lifestyle to be convenient, fun, and sensible.  An important part of that process is eating healthy, so we've included a number of heart-conscious recipes for your enjoyment.

 

BISCUITS

2 cups self-rising flour
1/4 tsp. soda
1 cup nonfat buttermilk

Mix ingredients. Knead, roll out and cut. Bake at 425° for 8 - 10 minutes on Pam sprayed pan. Brush top lightly with low fat margarine before baking.

Yield: 12 biscuits
Serving: 1 biscuit

82 calories and < 1gram of Fat per biscuit
Per Serving: 16 grams of Carbohydrate, 3 grams of Protein,
306 mg Sodium, < 1 mg Cholesterol

GRAVY

2 cups skim milk
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
2 Tbsp. lean bacon pieces

Dissolve cornstarch in 1/4 cup milk. Pour milk and cornstarch mixture in skillet. Bring to a boil, stir constantly. Add bacon bits, salt, and pepper to taste. Simmer 10 minutes for flavor.

Yield: 2 cups
Serving: 2 Tablespoons
