so we've included a number of heart-conscious recipes for your
enjoyment.
APPLE STRUDEL
7 large apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
1/3 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup margarine
1 egg yolk
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 cup brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350° F. Spray 8 x 8-inch baking pan
with non-stick cooking spray. Cook apple slices with
water and 1/4 cup sugar until tender. Drain apples
and set aside. In a small bowl, mix flour, 3/4 cup
sugar, and baking powder. With a pastry blender cut
in margarine and then egg yolk. Reserve 1 cup of
flour mixture for the topping. Press remainder into
the bottom and sides of the pan. Spoon drained
apples into the pan. Mix cinnamon and brown sugar together and sprinkle over apples. Cover with
reserved topping. Bake for 1 hour or until crust is
golden brown.
Yield: 12 servings
